Eligibility Criteria
1. Age Limit (As on 01.08.2026)
- Candidates must be between 18 to 30 years of age.
- You must have been born not earlier than August 2, 1996, and not later than August 1, 2008.
- Age Relaxations: SC/ST candidates get a 5-year relaxation, OBC candidates get a 3-year relaxation, and PwBD candidates get up to 10 years.
2. Educational Qualification (As on 01.08.2026)
The educational requirements vary slightly depending on the specific post code:
For Junior Translators (Codes A to C):
- A Master’s degree from a recognized University in Hindi with English as a compulsory/elective subject or medium of examination at the degree level (or vice versa).
- AND a recognized Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English & vice versa, OR two years' experience of translation work in a Central/State Government Office.
For Senior Translators (Code D):
- Similar Master's degree requirements as the Junior posts.
- AND a recognized Diploma or Certificate course in translation, OR three years' experience of translation work in a Central/State Government Office.
Application Fee
- Standard Fee: ₹100/- (Rupees One Hundred Only).
- Exemptions: Women candidates, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), and eligible Ex-Servicemen are entirely exempted from fee payment.
- Payments can be made online via BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, or RuPay Debit cards.
Selection Process & Exam Pattern
The SSC JHT 2026 examination consists of two papers.
Paper-I (Computer Based Examination)

Paper-II (Descriptive)
Candidates who clear Paper-I will be shortlisted for Paper-II.
- Subject: Translation & Essay.
- Format: Contains two passages for translation (one Hindi to English, one English to Hindi) and an Essay in both Hindi and English.
- Maximum Marks: 200 Marks.
- Duration: 2 Hours.
Note: For final merit, the weightage will be 50% of the scores in Paper-I and 100% of the marks in Paper-II.
How to Apply Online
- Register on the New Portal: All candidates must generate a fresh One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website (https://ssc.gov.in). Old OTRs from ssc.nic.in are no longer functional.
- Aadhaar Authentication: SSC highly recommends using Aadhaar Based Authentication during your OTR.
- Live Photograph: You do not need to upload a pre-existing photo. The application requires capturing a live photograph using your device's camera. Ensure you have good lighting, a plain background, and are not wearing a cap or spectacles.
- Upload Signature: Upload a clear, scanned signature in JPEG/JPG format (10 to 20 KB).
- Submit & Pay: Preview your application carefully, pay the required fee, and submit before the May 14, 2026 deadline.
